Opening Hours
Open daily from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM — here's when it's best to visit.
Open Daily: 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Medersa Ben Youssef is a ticketed monument with a gate and set hours. Hours shorten to 9:00 AM–4:30 PM during Ramadan — arrive early to beat the tour groups.
Best Times To Visit
Arrive right at 9:00 AM opening for the best light in the courtyard and the fewest visitors — by mid-morning the madrasa fills with tour groups. Its long hours mean a late-afternoon visit works well too, once the day-trip crowds have moved on.
How the day unfolds
Opening (9:00am–11:00am)
The quietest and best-lit time to visit — the courtyard and reflecting pool are calm and photograph beautifully before the tour groups arrive.
Midday (11:00am–3:00pm)
The busiest window of the day, as tour groups fill the courtyard and the stairways up to the student cells.
Afternoon & Evening (3:00pm–7:00pm)
Crowds thin out again as groups move on to their next stop, and the low light suits the carved cedar and zellige well. The madrasa closes promptly at 7:00 PM.
